Naples Fishing Report 09/27/08

If you know me you know I'm an outdoor girl!  Being the weekend I like to try and squeeze in some fishing time.  Don't worry I am sitting here now at an Olde Naples Open House so I still manage to balance both work and fun! Remember all work and no play makes for a burnt out Realtor®.

So here is some of  what is happening on the local fishing front here in NaplesFishing has been hot along the shore.  The last week has been  great!  Sheepshead are being caught along the pilings & rocks with live bait (shrimp). Schools of Jacks have been going crazy and Snook are back in season ( Sept 1 -Dec 1).  Limits are 1 per day 28 to 32 inches.

Snook are large and hanging out along the rock walls.  Last weekend I watched a lady fly fishing off the beach.   She caught a few nice big ones.   When I was in the water I saw a few that startled me with their size ( don't you love when you see them swim by behind you?)  They were picky  however, and I did not have live bait with me.

Fishing Permits and Regulations

This morning I headed out early to Gordon's Pass and caught myself a nice Bluefish and a Lady Fish with a scented rubber shrimp.  I had a few other hits and the Blue tore the lure up!  I did see lots of finger mullet, & a few sharks on patrol. Later ( after I quit fishing) I watched  the dolphin put on a good show, playing, chasing fish and jumping completely out of the water!  Once the tide came close to high things went downhill. Nothing was happening. I talked to several anglers,  no one was having any luck. It was fairly calm and overcast but no one was catching anything!

Gordon's Pass

Then the tide turned and the action was back.  Jack's hitting hard again, rubber shrimp, rapala's...Also spotted this afternoon a few rolling Tarpon & Yellowtail. My husband got spooled by something large...hmmm may have to get out there again tomorrow sometime.

If you have been out angling and have some great information to share please send me your news.  I will include it and would love to see your fishing pictures as well.

Hey Shannon,

I've been seeing lots of Snook along the beaches when I've been shelling the past couple of weeks. Nice size fish. Each time I see them I think to myself .... Why Aren't I fishing instead of shelling.  Ohwell.... It is just nice to be outside enjoying the weather.

Good fishing...

Hi Sean Yes the shells have been amazing haven't they?  I brought home a whole bunch and finally had to tell myself to stop looking.  I also found some great sea urchins...  I think the Snook are just teasing me so let me know if you do fish how you do!   I love this time of year !

When Gustav went by our coasts weeks ago, it washed millions of shells up on our beaches and then when Ike went by, he washed half of them back into the gulf. .... Ohwell .... Shelling can be addictive. Numerous times I've told myself that I was NOT going to collect any shells on a particular beach walk and before I know it, my hands are full. LOL

You are so right I do the same thing , why I need more shells I'm not sure ...still I bring them home. I just made a nice picture frame out of some for my Mom's birthday ( I had so many I had to do something with them)

I can't even remember the last time I went fishing!  I think it would be a lot of fun, especially if they are biting.  Here's what we saw a lot of on the beach when Fay was churning up the gulf...

Jellyfish      Lots of jellyfish!

Oh YUCK... I hate when they are around - luckily we don't often see them here.  I think you need to take a few hours and go fishing ... take your granddaughter.  It's so mindless you can't help but relax.  If you catch one even better :-)
